Prostate Pedallers Blog
What a Summer - New Routes, New Members
The blog may have been quiet but that doesn't mean there hasn't been much going on.
We may be a club that nobody wants to belong to, but when you need a club like ours we are there! We have had some new members join us and just like for us all, the Prostate Pedallers has been a life saver. Helping us come to terms with our diagnosis and prognosis, our treatments, medications and procedures and also our side effects which are always a challenge.
We have a vast amount of lived experience in the group so there is always somebody who has walked in your shoes. Some recent feedback we have received from new members ranges from 'thank goodness I found you guys' to "I wish I had found you sooner' to 'what a relief to be able to talk about my situation to somebody that understands'.
Prostate Cancer doesn't discriminate and this helps us create quite a unique group of men with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We all have one thing in common that bonds us and that is we all know what it is like to be told you have Prostate Cancer and have the disease strike at the very heart of manhood.
There is also a unique positivity in the group that is nothing short of infectious. We are men that get up and get out. Even when those of us can't cycle due to treatment or other life events that hold us back, we meet up for a coffee and wax lyrical about rides, trips to France and plans for the future. We don't always discuss our cancer but when we need to there are many listeners.
A wonderful group of positive men, pushing forward and looking forward. Enjoying each day and making the most of it. Even more so this year with the hot weather resulting in bone dry trails all over Hertfordshire and Bedforshire where we ride. Here are a selection of pictures from some of our outings and adventures. From road rides to off road MTB rides. At cafés Oval, Spokes, Emily's and Bakehouse. All of them sprinkled with coffee and cake a bit of Prostate Pedaller magic!
