Tuesday Tremblers Tackle The Trails

We have previously considered changing our name to the Mid-week Marauders as the day we ride during the week changes from week to week. Today we cycled on a Tuesday so maybe Tuesday Tremblers would be more appropriate? The general concensus has been that we are ultimately Prostate Pedallers so what's in a name we concluded.

The Wednesday Wobblers was originally set up to help new and old Pedallers get back to fitness following treatment or injury. The original benefactor of the Wobblers was our beloved Bob or 'Crazy Bob' as he was lovingly known. He gradually built up his strength on the Wednesday rides and eventually managed an 18 mile trip through tracks, trails, woods and roads. There were hills, some long and steep, but Bob attacked them and completed the ride in style. His trademark 'lie down on the ground' completed a fantastic morning but he wasn't finished there - he produced an amazing chocolate cake for us all to enjoy back at The Oval. Bob epitomised what the Pedallers are all about. Courage, commitment, positivity, empathy. He had all of those with plenty to spare.

And so, a year later, Dave, Jim, Andy and Ivan cycled Bob's great achievement and retraced his steps (or his wheels!) - heading out of Harpenden through the golf course and Heartwood Forest. Heading up to Symondshyde we took on the same technical trail loop that Bob navigated in style before taking the hill to Symondshyde Wood. It was a beautiful day with plenty of sun and the ground was remarkably dry for the time of year although the thick bed of leaves managed to hide a few surprises!

Back through Nomansland,  West Common, Hatching Green and Rothamsted, we picked up the Nickey Line for a final descent to the Oval Café.

We met Mikey who was on his way back from Mount Vernon and we discussed and admired Pedallers new and old. The chat moved on to our own treatments and it was evident that the one thing the PP's are good at is support - it never fails to amaze how caring the group is. The willingness to listen to others and talk openly about their own diagnosis, prognosis, treatments and feelings is such a huge strength of the group..

The Pedallers aren't simply guys that cycle and drink coffee together. They are friends in the true sense of the word.

If you are having any second thoughts about meeting up with us please don't hesitate. You won't find a more welcoming, caring and fun group of bloody good blokes!
