Mid Week Mixed Terrain Meandering
The beautiful blue skies were beckoning and hard to resist. The spring bulbs were in full bloom with daffodils, crocuses and tulips in abundance and in waiting as the Pedallers met up at The Oval.
A gentle two hour ride had been planned to get Jim back into the swing of things as a recent bout of Salmonella had knocked him, not surprisingly, for six! The small group headed for Rothamsted, through the park and then made the climb up towards Childwickbury. The countryside looked stunning with the clear blue skies as a backdrop.
Dog walkers were out in abundance with one particular walker trying to keep track of about 12 canines! Not always easy to navigate dogs that insist on standing in the middle of narrow tracks defiantly. We steered a safe course around them trying not to upset the horses or their riders and headed into 'the forest of no return'! When this area was first explored it was impossible to complete a loop - it always ended up making us retrace our steps and going out the way we came in. However, a Pedaller is not easily beaten and we navigated the loop in and out with aplomb!
Making our way through the golf course and back into the town centre we cycled back up towards The Oval. Geoff and Andy had pressing engagements and Jim did a sterling job considering his time off and we assumed he headed off home to collapse and sleep on the sofa. Very well deserved Slim.
A lovely mixed terrain ride in beautiful countryside and sunshine. What's not to like!?! If you are thinking of joining us, don't delay - just do it. Come and meet us for a coffee; you won't regret it.
