Homemade Treats at Emily's Tea Room
A cold and crisp morning awaited the Pedallers. There were errands to be run, ice and roadworks to be navigated by car and PSA blood tests to be completed at hospital. But these would not hold us back from a 10am meet up at The Oval.
Our first downhill was a reminder of just how cold it was and that the layers we had donned earlier in the day might not be enough. We ploughed on and as the wheels turned we gradually heated up. Despite recent and ongoing health setbacks we kept pushing on. In usual fashion we encouraged each other up the hills (and there were some steep climbs) and enjoyed the long sweeping downhills.
This was a road ride but the heavy rain meant that mud and dirt covered most of the country lanes we were taking on so our brand spanking new Prostate Pedaller jackets were taking a bit of a battering. Not to be deterred we knew Emily's Tea Shop wasn't far and the first 10 miles of our journey were almost complete.
To warm ourselves up, some opted for the homemade tomato and basil soup (a Pedaller favourite) with the obligatory coffee of course. Some great laughs were had today, the lads were definitely in high spirits, so cake was in order for a true two course experience!
Back on the bikes we headed for home and wound our way through country lanes back to Harpenden. Another lovely day with some rare sun and the usual cycling, laughs, coffee and cake. And to round it off PJ and Slim (sounds like a bad boy band) coming back from operations and time off the bike to put in a top performance up and down the hills.
Great effort all round lads!
