Charles Frost Memorial Ride

Our founder Charles is always on our minds but we wanted to pay a more official tribute to him. So, this Saturday we assembled in Whipsnade and readied ourselves for the day.

While Jim had planned the route, Charles was still in charge of course and he had laid on beautiful clear skies and sunshine and a friendly Robin that watched over us as we assembled our bikes and accessories. The group were waved off by Liz and we cycled away from Whipsnade and on towards our Redbourn loop passing by Studham, Markyate and Flamstead on the way out. As we reached Redbourn we turned for home heading up through Gaddesden Row and back to Whipsnade to complete our 18 mile ride.

What pushed the group on in the final mile or so of climbs was the knowledge that Liz and her cohort had laid on the most perfect refreshments. Crispy bacon rolls (there's no other way right?) and sausages in baps were consumed rapidly and washed down with zero lager (as most of us were driving or cycling home). As if this wasn't enough, home-made cakes were then brought out with teas and coffees.

We sat on the veranda and waxed lyrical about Charles and his ways and antics and how he would have loved today and been looking down on us all and laughing. It was great to get the Pedallers together and share stories with Liz and remember the great man and all that he had created and achieved - a proper legacy for us to benefit from and enjoy.

We talk about perfect days but this really was one. It embodied what the Pedallers are all about. Support, camaraderie, laughter. The sun, the hard trails (no mud in sight) the food, drink and of course a Pedaller staple, cake were the icing on the top!

So lovely to catch up with Liz and a wonderful memorial ride and a fitting tribute to our beloved Charles. Forever missed and never forgotten.
