A Wheely Good Pedaller Saturday
The early morning mist was thick but was not going to stop Andy cycling 14 miles from Harpenden to Whipsnade for the Pedaller Saturday ride. Tony and Mike had also cycled from home with Mike coming from St Albans so there were some warmed up legs by 9am! Charles had provided cups of tea all round for them and the other riders, Jim, Dave, Mike and Paul. It was a great opportunity to catch up with Charles following the end of his recent treatment and it was even greater to see our founder in high spirits and on good form. It won't be long until Charles gets to join us on the rides again and he will knock us all into shape for sure!
Jim had planned a great route for our tip down to Redbourn. This was yet another variation on previous routes and included varied terrain, excellent tracks and avoided roads wherever possible. The mist had cleared and the sun was shining to make for perfect riding conditions.
We arrived at The Hub and felt a heavy police presence but luckily none of the Pedallers were placed under arrest. The 6 or so police officers and PCSOs were there to assist cyclists protect their beloved bikes and some of us used their help to get our frames and details registered on The National Cycle Database.
With some caffeine on board from The Hub and a good chat including some memories of our beloved 'Crazy Bob', Andy and Mike joined the Nickey Line for their trips back to Harpenden and St Albans respectively. The others started the gradual climb back up to Whipsnade and their onward journeys.
A cracking Pedaller morning with all the right ingredients. A great effort all round.
